Who is an Enrolled Agent (EA)?

Enrolled Agents are America's tax experts. They are the only federally-licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and also have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Enrolled Agents are required to pass a strenuous three-part examination covering the three main aspects of taxation: individual taxation, business taxation, and representation, practice & procedure. According to the Society of Enrolled Agents, historically, less than 1/3 of applicants pass the exam annually.

In addition to the stringent testing and application process, the IRS requires Enrolled Agents to complete 72 hours of continuing education every three years to maintain their licenses. The Enrolled Agent designation is one of the most trusted professional designations a tax accountant can attain.
